In my home computer I have installed Ubuntu 9.10, and in my office I use mandriva 2010. Here are a few of my observations.
They both are a) free and easy to install b) easy to manage the software packages. The ubuntu is GOME based distribution and Mandriva has both GOME and KDE enviroment. (Kubuntu actually use KDE).
Their management of the softwares ("soft" used in the below) are below:
Ubuntu
Install : apt-get install soft
remove : apt-get remove soft
search : apt-cache search soft
show inf: apt-cache show soft
update : apt-get update soft
Mandriva
Install : urpmi soft
remove : urpme soft
search : urpmq soft
show : urpmq -i soft
update : urpmi.update -a soft
here are a few links also about the comparisons between ubuntu and mandriva.
